Oh the craziness! Week in Review, February 10-16!

It's been a couple weeks since I last blogged about how things are going. Last week was a great week. Even with the snow that was still covering the sidewalks and the ice on the roads, I managed to get myself on the treadmill 3 days in a row which allowed me to have a great week of running overall. The goal was to get to 58 miles last week. Much to my surprise, I nailed it. The last few weeks have been physically and mentally exhausting. We closed on our house at the end of January. The first weekend into February, we started ripping down wood panels and scraping popcorn ceilings. Then we had to haul a beam into our attic through an upstairs window. This was no small task. Thankfully, I had some great help with this one or there was no way this was going to happen. *Shout out to my Dad and Father-In-Law for this one* When we bought the house, it consisted of two small living room spaces with the smaller of the two containing the fireplace. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to open it up into one large living space so in order to do that, a beam was going to be needed that spanned approximately 20 feet wide in order to hang the ceiling joists from it. It took us a full day until 10:00 p.m. to get the beam positioned and the ceiling hung from it.  I know I was sore the next day from all this hard work so I can only imagine how my Dad and Father-In-Law were feeling. Doing all this work makes running more challenging but so far it hasn't prevented me from getting the best of both worlds.

Thanks to the weather warming up, Kimi and I were able to finally complete a solid long run of 15 miles over the weekend. We originally had planned on doing a 4 mile tempo run on Saturday but decided against it because we wanted to focus on having a strong long run this week along with a full solid week. With the running mileage goal completed, I'm setting my sites on 60 miles this week.  It started off well with a 9 miler on Monday but Tuesday was rough as fatigue from the weekend set in. I settled for 5 slow miles on Tuesday and so I'll plan on having a better *less windy hopefully* Wednesday run.

Living Room Wall to be removed!
Opened Up!

It's Gone! :)
Mileage Goal: 58 miles
Actual: 58 miles

Week in Review - Jan 27-Feb 2

Last week was a decent week. Not great but not too terrible either. I started the week horrible because I didn't run at all on Monday. I was simply tired from work and didn't get home until nearly 7:00 p.m. so I just wasn't in the mood to go run. Tuesday, I was bound and determined to get back on track with a solid 7-8 mile run. However, it turned into a 6 because I under dressed and was too cold to continue after 6 miles. This was one of the rare times that Kimi actually handled the cold better than me. The rest of the week went well with some 7 mile and 8 mile runs. Thursday was a busy morning. We woke up and ran. Then we had to hurry to an appointment to sign papers to close on our new home!  We are both pretty excited about finally getting out of the apartment life and into home ownership.

On Saturday morning, we woke up and ate a very small breakfast so that we could head out to the trail to get in a good solid workout. It was a dreary morning on Saturday, which had me jealous of all the OMRR peeps that went to the New Orleans Rock and Roll Marathon. Anyways, we sat in the car for a few minutes contemplating whether we would be able to accomplish our goal.  We had originally planned on running a 2 mile warm up followed by 1600,1200,1000,800,600,400, with .5-.25 recovery and a cool down to finish out to 14 miles. Due to weather, we decided to simply take it one step at a time and see how far we made it. The weather held back for the majority of the workout. There was a slight mist most of the time but not enough to soak all the way through my rain jacket (at least not until after the 1k).  So we had to put our determined game faces on to finish up the final three presses. As miserable as we were (and especially my poor wife) we pressed on and finished the workout. Surprisingly enough, it turned out pretty darn good. We didn't make it to the full 14 miles like we had hoped but we did make it to 9 miles. :) Can't always do what you set out to do. We had only planned on running 8 miles on Sunday but since we didn't manage our "long run" on Saturday, we upped our Sunday miles to 11.

All in all, it was a decent week and I'm now going to springboard into the first full week of February ready to rock and roll.  *I just hope the weather doesn't jack it up this week.
